Customers are invited to join experts from various departments each morning for coffee Monday through Thursday from 8:30 to 10 am, and to celebrate with a hot dog cookout Friday, May 12 from 11 am to 1 pm.

Monday’s coffee features the Engineering Department; Tuesday is Billing/Metering; Wednesday is Water Quality and Thursday is Human Resources. Staff from every department will be on hand Friday.

Promoted by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), Drinking Water Week is observed as a reminder of the importance of a safe, reliable water supply to the community. BJWSA’s mission – “Inspire Trust and Enhance Public Health” – is a simple statement of the duty of the Authority’s 170 employees and Board of Directors.

Additionally, BJWSA held poster, essay and short story competitions for local students. Elementary students were invited to create posters; middle schoolers were tasked with writing an essay and high schoolers were given the opportunity to craft a work of fiction. The theme for all contests is “Protect our future by protecting our water”.

Destiny Smart from Hardeeville Elementary School in Hardeeville won the poster contest, with a theme of “We all must do our part to protect our water”. Her class will receive a pizza party. Anthony Grant, Jr. from Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School in Hardeeville won an iPad for his essay about sustainable, innovative and green water ideas.
