(October 31, 2019) OKATIE, SC – Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) received its second Sustainable Water Utility Management Award from the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies (AMWA) October 21 at its 2019 Executive Management Conference in Newport, R.I. BJWSA was one of 19 agencies nation-wide to receive this distinction. The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies is an organization of the largest publicly owned drinking water suppliers in the United States.
The Sustainable Water Utility Management Award recognizes water utilities that have made a commitment to management that achieves a balance of innovative and successful efforts in areas of economic, social and environmental endeavors.

BJWSA accelerated its galvanized/cast iron service line replacement program with a commitment of $8 million to fund full replacement. Other initiatives include enhanced call center metrics, new metering and bill-paying initiatives, increased workforce investment, as well as enhanced predictive maintenance and asset management strategies. The new $30 million Hardeeville Water Reclamation Facility expansion produces highly treated reclaimed water quality effluent. Additionally, in 2018, the utility achieved more than one million safe work hours without an injury resulting in a lost workday as a result of compliance with its robust safety program. BJWSA previously won the Sustainable Water Utility Management Award in 2014.
